Article 1. Numbering Buildings
Owners and occupants of all lots or parts of lots or tracts in this city are hereby requested to number the buildings thereon in accordance with the following method:
(a) On all streets extending east and west, the buildings shall be numbered from Main Street commencing with the number One hundred (100) and each successive block east and west with one additional hundred, to the eastern and western limits of said street; the streets extending east and west, east of Main Street to be prefixed with the letters “E”, and those west of Main Street with the letter “W”. The even numbers shall be placed on the north side of each street and the odd numbers on the south side, to be so arranged that the numbers in each and all blocks lying between the same streets extending north and south shall correspond and be the same. The numbering shall be on the basis of one number to each twenty-five feet frontage, or fractional part thereof; however, where two buildings are located on the same twenty-five feet frontage, the second building shall be given the same number as the first with the number one-half (1/2) added.
(b) On all streets extending north and south the buildings shall be numbered from First Street, commencing with the number one hundred (100), and each successive block south with one additional hundred to the southern limit of said street. The even numbers shall be placed on the east side of each street and the odd numbers on the west side, to be so arranged that the numbers in each and all blocks lying between the same street running east and west shall correspond and be the same. The numbering shall be on the basis of one number to each twenty-five feet of frontage, or fractional part thereof; however, where two buildings are located on the same twenty-five feet of frontage, the second building shall be given the same number as the first with the number one-half (1/2) added.
(Ord. 189; Code 2026)
The numbers on any building shall be placed on the front of the building, door, post, transom or other place in such a manner that they may easily be seen from the street. The numbers shall be at least three (3) inches high.
(Ord. 189; Code 2026)
When a question arises as to the proper number to be assigned to any lot or building, the City Clerk shall decide the question and assign the number of such lot or building.
